After Camp Meeting, Sis. Sparks (Pastor's wife in Seward) asked me if I would speak at their church - Marathon Ministries - on the following Sunday. Her husband was going to be away and they needed a speaker. I was SO shocked and taken aback. I couldn't believe it! I told her that I didn't feel capable or worthy, but that I would speak if that's what she felt was right.
On Sunday (the day I flew out), Bro Blackshear very kindly loaned me his pick-up truck and I drove two and a half hours to the beautiful little town of Seward. There I had church with a very new group of people (about 12), and we had a good service! I sang a couple of songs before going up to speak, and then I shared what God had laid on my heart. While I was speaking I felt like it wasn't going over well at all. I thought, “I don't think they are understanding me; I'm probably not even making sense!" But, afterward we had a good altar call and the Lord blessed. Believe me; I am not claiming to be a speaker and especially not a "preacher". I was a nervous wreck speaking to just a small group of 12! But, if God asks me to do something, I will do it to the best of my ability. I thank God for this opportunity, and I hope that I was able to be a blessing to everyone who heard me that day in Seward, Alaska.
Afterwards, Sis Sparks took me out for a lovely dinner and tour about the city. She was very kind and gracious to me and even gave me some really neat souvenirs. I am so thankful for the many wonderful people God has placed in my heart. Soon it was time to leave and drive back to Anchorage where I would fly out around 1 am.
